2020-2021 Rhetoric Science Modules
These a la carte classes are offered throughout the year. Ranging from 2 week to 12 weeks in length, our mod courses allow you to customize your school year to fit your schedule and interests. Using Apologia Science as our base, we customize our mods with concepts and projects well-suited to online learning. Science students come to class each week to learn exciting new concepts, then complete lab experiments, projects, and reports at home.
Life Science: Cellular Biology
Although tiny, a single cell performs countless biological functions and has several fascinating structures within it. This God honoring unit study will teach students about cell structure, functions, and organelles. Students will create a poster at home, extract DNA, as well as make a “cell cake” to share with family/friends at the end of the unit! A supply list will become available prior to the first class meeting.

Physical Science: Chemistry-Exploring the Periodic Table
This God honoring unit study will introduce students to the periodic table of the elements. Subject matter to be investigated includes: history of the periodic table, element names and symbols, atomic mass and numbers, families and groupings, isotopes, electron configurations, and Lewis structures. This course will have assigned homework each week and students will complete engaging hands on activities at home using common household items. A supply list will become available prior to the first class meeting.

Physical Science: Chemistry-Acids and Bases (with Lab Report)
This God honoring unit study will introduce students to the chemistry of acids and bases. Each student will also write a lab report after performing an experiment at home with common household acids and bases. Red and blue litmus paper must be purchased for this course. Subject matter to be investigated includes: characteristics of acids/bases, litmus testing, anthocyanins as acid/base indicators, and acid/base reactions. A full supply list for this unit study will become available prior to the first class meeting.

Life Science: Marine Biology
This God honoring marine science unit will introduce students to the remarkable diversity of marine life as well as explore the geology and ecology of the earth’s oceans. Topics to be explored include: geology of the ocean, marine plants, microscopic marine organisms, sponges, jellyfish, anemones, coral, mollusks, arthropods, echinoderms, sharks, bony fishes, marine mammals, reptiles and birds. Students will create an ocean layer model and explore buoyancy at home during this fascinating unit! A full supply list for this unit study will become available prior to the first class meeting.
