"Every great dream begins with a dreamer." --Harriet Tubman
Some people dream about their their future or their hobbies. We dream about how to better serve homeschooling families! These are some of the courses we are hoping to offer some day. If there are courses or workshops that you would find helpful, please let us know!
Here is our big list of dreams:
Short specialty courses for students. Some families are doing well well with Tapestry on their own, but just need a little help from time to time. Maybe you shudder at the thought of teaching the Odyssey and would like your student to drop into an 8-week study of that Classic work. Perhaps you are reaching your limit on how to help your rhetoric writer and want to drop them into a 6-week research paper course. You might find that you have a child who loves to write stories! We would love to offer a story-writing course to inspire them.
Courses for non-classical families. Perhaps you plan to use dual enrollment for your high schooler's last year and don't want to follow a strict classical, trivium-based model, studying history all four years of high school. We are dreaming of adding one-year American history and world history classes to help families who are not pursuing classical education. We would also like to add writing classes that do not require concurrent history studies.
Delayed-lecture courses. We're hoping to make recordings of some of our classes available online, so you can study at your pace at your ideal time.
ACT/SAT prep courses to help your student thrive when taking these entrance exams.
Short courses for families considering joining the Lampstand Learning Center family but not quite ready yet to jump in. We would love to invite your student to spend a month with us studying a sub-set of one of our full-year courses. Maybe they dip their toes in the water by studying ancient Greece or Huck Finn with us to help you decide.
Workshops to help new homeschool moms. Maybe you need help planning and scheduling, tracking grades, producing transcripts, finding homeschool-life balance, teaching tough subjects (like writing!), or handling Adulting 101 as you prepare to fire off your nearly-grown arrows.
Summer book clubs for students and parents! Many Tapestry year-plans suggest optional summer reading, and we would love to offer summer courses for your students. We could read a book together that is taking the culture by storm and evaluate it from a Biblical worldview. Maybe you are preparing to teach your homeschooled student one of the Classics and want to study it with other moms before you teach it.
The sky's the limit, and we are dreaming big! Thanks for sharing the journey with us.
